Representative to the General Court
Billerica's representative (deputy) to the Massachusetts General Court. The town sent its first deputy in 1663 and, in most years afterward, one representative of its own; it chose not to send one in some years (for example 1797, 1821, 1825, 1828, 1836, 1844, 1845 and 1850). In the 1660s and 1670s the town sometimes chose prominent men from outside Billerica (styled "Mr." in the records) to serve. From 1858 towns were grouped into representative districts, and Billerica shared a seat with neighboring towns (first the Twenty-Second Middlesex District), so only Billerica residents who won the district seat are listed for later years.
